Academics

Miles Law School requires students to maintain a grade point average of 2.0 ("C") for all course work. Students who do not have an overall GPA of 2.0 or better at the end of any semester are automatically placed on academic probation for one year. At the end of that year, the student must have attained a 2.0 GPA or be dismissed from the law school.

Grade point average is compiled by averaging the quality points attained.

Grades

Academic performance is graded by a system of letter grades with quality points assigned as follows:

Letters Grades
Quality Points
100-90 = A
4.0
89-80 = B
3.0
79-70 = C
2.0
69-60 = D
1.0
Below 60 = F
0

Please do not call the administrative office regarding grades.

Questions about exam grades need to be directed to the professor. If a student believes there is an error on his/her transcript, the student should send a written request to the administrative office addressed to the professor for review and verification of the transcript grade.

Transcripts will be mailed to students approximately five (5) weeks after the last day of final exams.

All charges of tuition, fees, etc., are due and payable in advance at the beginning of each semester. Arrangements for deferred payments must be made in person at the Administrative office. Under the deferred payment plan, a minimum of one third (1/3) of the semester charges for tuition and total charges for fees must be paid at the time of registration. Failure to pay the designated amounts when due will result in a late charge and suspension from the law school until payments are made.

All fee balances are due prior to one-half of the semester. There will be no make-up exams without approval of the Administration and Dean of the Law School. Students with unpaid balances will not be permitted to take (final) examinations.

The Student Bar Association Annual Law Day Banquet
Is an integral part of the total curriculum of Miles Law School. This banquet is generally held in the month of May coinciding with the national observance of Law Day. Student attendance at each Law Day Banquet is required for graduation.

Methods of Instruction
The case method of instruction is used primarily in the presentation of courses in the Law School. However, the lecture method and other methods of presentation are also utilized. The method of instruction is left to the discretion of each professor.

Frequent examinations are given, covering the material previously presented to evaluate the student's grasp of the subject matter as well as give the student an early opportunity to appraise himself of his progress.
The course of study of the first year, second year and portions of the third year is required. The objective is to give a proper foundation for the ultimate practice of law and to afford the student with an adequate number of basic courses so as to provide a well-rounded legal education.
