The Honorable U. W. Clemon, Academic Proctor of the MIles Law School Board of Trustees, announced the recent interim appointment of local Attorney J. Richet Pearson to Deanship of the School of Law.

Clemon, the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, uttered high praise for the new Interim Dean. "I have known Attorney Pearson all of her life. She demonstrated a superb grasp of the law and exceptional management skills during the period she served as law clerk in my office."

Clemon went on to point out that the new appointee brings to her recent assignment over a decade and a half of varied and distinguished service on both the civil and criminal side of the practice of law. Her resume is, Judge Clemon pointed out, "replete with evidence of her constructive, widespread involvement in community service in the city."

After completing grade school in the Birmingham School System, Attorney Pearson received her high school diploma at Altamont School, later graduating from Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, in 1981. She enrolled in the University of Alabama Law School graduating in 1984. She passed the Alabama Bar in September of that year.

Pearson is a member of the Thirgood Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, its Board of Trustees, and a Board Member of the Directors of the C.M.E. Church Foundation. The new Dean also serves as counsel to the Miles College Board of Trustees and to the 5th Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to assume this mammoth challenge," the new appointee said. "I welcome fully the opportunity to be directly involved in shaping new legal minds. I shal make the most of this unique chance to serve well," Pearson stated.

Interim Dean Pearson asserted further that she will continue her private practice of law in the courts of this state and nation.
