An institution of higher learning cannot serve its students effectively without a strong teaching component and positive learning environment. Miles Law School has some of the best and brightest faculty members dedicated and committed to imparting their knowledge to the students.   The low student-teacher ratio allows them to engage students in rigorous debate, discourse and discussion of legal precepts and theories. Because most of our faculty members are practitioners, their experience adds another dimension to the instructional level offered at the law school. Literally, many of them come from the courtroom to the classroom.

We are pleased to feature Professor Marlena Cummings in this month's "Faculty Spotlight."  During fall and spring semesters, Professor Cummings teaches Legal Research and Writing and Lawyering Skills. She teaches Advanced Legal Writing during the summer term.

In her own words, Professor Cummings states:

Teaching at Miles Law School has been an extremely rewarding experience for me. As a Staff Attorney for the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Alabama, I understand the importance of excellent legal research and writing skills and enjoy instructing the law students in this area. I feel a great sense of pride in my students when I see them implementing what they have learned because it lays the proper foundation for them to become great attorneys.

I make every effort to convey to my students that while I am interested in their legal education, I also care about them as individuals. As a result, students keep me updated with their latest personal and career successes even after they have moved on from my class. I greatly value that as an instructor."
